Vintage Sterling Silver Presentation Trowel and Mallet Set - Boxed

About the Item

An exceptional, fine and impressive vintage Elizabeth II English sterling silver presentation / ceremonial trowel and mallet set - boxed; an addition to our diverse flatware collection. This exceptional vintage Elizabeth II sterling silver and painted wood presentation set consists of a trowel and mallet. The sterling silver presentation trowel has a rounded blade. The anterior face of the blade is plain and features the contemporary engraved presentation inscription: 'Presented to Mrs. G.G.H.Bolton on the inauguration of Parkside Colliery, 28th May 1957’. The reverse of the blade is plain and unembellished, apart from the registration number '1109S'. This vintage sterling silver trowel retains the original turned painted wood handle and hallmarked ferrule. The turned painted wood presentation mallet has a circular rounded form with a tapering cylindrical, baluster shaped handle. The vintage mallet is fitted with a silver plaque to the base, engraved with the aforementioned contemporary engraved inscription. This impressive ceremonial silver trowel and mallet is fitted to the original hinged leatherette presentation box with satin and velvet lined interior, securing with two hinged catches. The interior of the box bears the retailer’s mark of ‘Terry & Co. Goldsmiths & Silversmiths, Corner of Cross St & King St, Manchester.’ Condition This vintage silver trowel and mallet set is an exceptional gauge of silver, exceptional quality and in exceptional condition. The pieces have been professionally polished and are in presentation condition. The box is in excellent presentation condition. Full hallmarks struck to the surface of the blade and mallet, in addition to part hallmarks to the ferrule are all very clear. An exceptional, fine and impressive, unusual antique George V English sterling silver Art Deco presentation trophy in the form of dartboard; part of our silverware collection. This exceptional and unusual antique sterling silver trophy has been crafted in the form of a Yorkshire or Kent doubles dartboard*. The face of the dartboard clearly depicts the appropriately numbered segments and the wirework spider. This fine George V trophy is supported by an ebonised wood mount and an Art Deco style angular ebonised wooden base. The base displays six hallmarked vacant presentation plaques; each plaque may be engraved with a personal inscription if so desired. The posterior surface of the wooden mount is plain. * This variation of dart board does not incorporate a triple ring, only the double and bullseye. Silver Cased Military Interest Presentation Snuff Box 1847

An exceptional and rare antique silver snuffbox reading 'PRESENTED TO St. Mr. P CAMPION, 1st Bn 19th Foot, by His, BROTHER SERJEANTS, As A Mark of Their, Sincere Regard.' in its original shaped fitted case and made by Cronin & Wheeler, Birmingham in 1847. The snuff box, probably unused, is simply stunning the cartouche shaped body engraved with rococo 'C' scrolls, engine turning and floral sprays with a hinged cover and richly gilded interior. The box has clear and crisp silver assay and makers marks to the cover and base and has date marks for 1847. Provenance: The property of a gentleman. Sergeant Major Patrick Campion was enlisted with the 19th Foot in 1838 and served in Malta, the Ionian Islands, the West Indies, Canada, the Crimea and India amongst other postings. He received a DCM at the Battle of Alma ‘for his gallant rescue, in company with a couple of his comrades, of a wounded officer of his own company, who was lying in front of the Russian line’s.’ and despite being injured in this act, he recovered and would see action at Inkerman, Redan and the siege of Sevastopol.
