19th Century 1830 Sterling Silver Sauceboat / Gravy Boat

About the Item

A fine and impressive antique William IV English sterling silver sauceboat or gravy boat; an addition to our silver dining collection. This exceptional antique William IV sterling silver sauce boat has a plain oval rounded form onto three scrolling feet. The surface of this antique sauceboat is plain and unembellished. The upper portion of the body features an undulating, shaped rim. The sauceboat is fitted with a fine opposing scroll handle with a plain scrolling thumbpiece. This impressive example of William IV silverware is supported by three impressive applied scrolling hoof style feet with impressive swept scrolling decorated sockets in junction with the body. Condition This antique silver sauce boat is a very good gauge of silver, excellent quality and in excellent condition in keeping with age. There are some surface blemishes, in keeping with age. Full hallmarks struck to the underside of the body are all very clear. Dimensions Length from back of handle to lip 17.2cm/6.8". Width 9cm/3.5". Height to lip 10cm/3.9". Weight 7.4 troy ounces/230g. Maker: Edward Barton. Origin: London, England. Date: 1830.     An exceptional, fine and impressive antique Edwardian English sterling silver creamer in the Rococo style; an addition to our Edwardian silverware collection. This fine antique Edwardian sterling silver cream jug has a plain pear shaped form. The body of this silver cream jug is embellished with flat chased simplified leaf designs incorporating scrolling borders and scale motif panels, in the Rococo style. The decoration to the body incorporates an applied moulded border to the upper shaped rim and an impressive scrolling leaf design to the underside of the spout. The formation of this Edwardian piece reflects an early Georgian design and style often associated with the renowned silversmith Paul de Lamerie. This impressive example of Edwardian teaware is fitted with a cast and applied shaped scrolling handle with a predatory bird's head to the upper terminal and further leaf designs to the lower socket. The jug is supported by three impressive cast and applied ribbed feet with scrolling sockets in junction with the body. The underside of this sterling silver cream jug bears the retailer's mark 'Carrington & Co., London, 130 Regent St', in addition to the registration number '6940'.
