Flying Bird Pattern Pair of Sauce Boats England Circa 1840

About the Item

This lovely pair of antique sauce boats is decorated in the vibrant Flying Bird pattern. Each piece features a colorful, long-tailed bird flying above a lush chinoiserie garden filled with blooming flowers. Painted in vivid shades of purple, pink, yellow, orange, deep cobalt blue, and green, the pattern captures the joyful spirit and refined craftsmanship of early 19th-century English ceramics. The Flying Bird pattern was first introduced around 1813 and quickly became one of the most admired designs of the period. Made in England circa 1840, these sauce boats are rare surviving examples of this enduring and sought-after decoration. In 1794, he acquired his own pottery at Longport and began producing cream-colored, blue-printed earthenware. By September 1806, the quality of his porcelain and pottery wares was such that the Prince of Wales, later to become King George IV, ordered Davenport services.
