Puiforcat (Hermes) - 48pc Antique French Sterling Silver Flatware Set + Chests !
Located in Wilmington, DE
Direct from Paris, a stunning 48pc. antique French 19th century sterling silver flatware set by France’s premier silversmith “Puiforcat”, currently owned by Hermes, in excellent condition and with individual storage chests. The name Puiforcat resonates deeply within the annals of French luxury, embodying the pinnacle of silversmithing craftsmanship, tradition, and innovation. With a history spanning nearly two centuries, the house of Puiforcat is synonymous with unparalleled quality, royal patronage, and an enduring legacy that seamlessly blends classical elegance with modern artistry. From its foundation in the early 19th century to its contemporary association with the luxury conglomerate Hermès, Puiforcat has maintained its status as a paragon of excellence in the creation of sterling silver flatware and objets d'art. The story of Puiforcat begins in 1820, when Émile Puiforcat established the silversmithing company in Paris. Initially focused on the production of flatware, the company quickly gained a reputation for its meticulous craftsmanship and exquisite designs. The Puiforcat family, over several generations, maintained a steadfast commitment to the highest standards of silversmithing. Each piece produced by the workshop was meticulously handcrafted, with an attention to detail that elevated Puiforcat above many of its contemporaries. The company’s dedication to quality was not merely about aesthetics; it was a philosophical approach that viewed silversmithing as an art form. Every piece, whether a simple spoon or an ornate candelabra, was treated as a work of art, designed to bring beauty and elegance to everyday life. Puiforcat’s reputation for excellence did not go unnoticed by the elite of French society. The house soon became a favored silversmith among the aristocracy and royalty, further solidifying its status as a purveyor of luxury. The association with the French royal family was a significant milestone for Puiforcat, as it brought the company into the upper echelons of French society and culture. One of the most notable patrons of Puiforcat was the Duke of Orléans, a member of the Bourbon royal family. The Duke’s patronage was instrumental in elevating Puiforcat’s profile, as it led to commissions for some of the most prestigious households in Europe. These commissions often involved the creation of bespoke pieces that were tailored to the specific tastes and requirements of the clients, showcasing Puiforcat’s ability to blend traditional craftsmanship with personalized design. The royal patronage extended beyond France’s borders as well, with Puiforcat receiving commissions from various European courts. This international recognition helped the company to expand its influence and cement its position as one of the leading silversmiths in Europe. The ability to cater to such discerning clients required not only exceptional craftsmanship but also an understanding of the cultural and aesthetic nuances that defined different European courts. Puiforcat’s success in this regard is a testament to the company’s versatility and artistic sensibility. In 1993, Puiforcat became part of the Hermès group, one of the most prestigious luxury conglomerates in the world. This partnership brought together two iconic French brands, each with its own rich history and commitment to excellence. The acquisition by Hermès marked a new chapter in Puiforcat’s history, as it allowed the company to expand its reach and resources while maintaining its artisanal roots. The collaboration between Puiforcat and Hermès has been a natural fit, as both companies share a dedication to craftsmanship, quality, and timeless design. Hermès, known for its impeccable leather goods and accessories, brought its expertise in luxury branding and global distribution to the table, helping to elevate Puiforcat’s profile on the international stage. At the same time, Puiforcat has remained true to its heritage, continuing to produce its silverware in its traditional workshops using time-honored techniques. Under the Hermès umbrella, Puiforcat has been able to expand its product offerings while maintaining the same level of quality that has defined the brand for nearly two centuries. This has included the introduction of new designs and collections that appeal to contemporary tastes, while still honoring the company’s rich history. The partnership has also allowed Puiforcat to collaborate with other designers and artists, further expanding its creative horizons. At the heart of Puiforcat’s enduring appeal is its commitment to creating the finest sterling silver flatware in the world. The company’s 950 sterling silver flatware sets are considered some of the best in the industry, renowned for their exceptional quality, durability, and timeless beauty. The process of creating Puiforcat’s sterling silver flatware is a labor-intensive one, requiring the skill and expertise of master silversmiths. Each piece is handcrafted using traditional techniques that have been passed down through generations. This includes the meticulous process of shaping, hammering, and polishing the silver to achieve the desired form and finish. The attention to detail is evident in every aspect of the flatware, from the perfectly balanced weight to the intricate engravings that adorn many of the pieces. One of the hallmarks of Puiforcat’s flatware...

Old Masters by Gorham Sterling Silver Flatware Service Lg Dinner Set Multi motif
Located in Big Bend, WI
Designed by renowned sculptor Antoine Heller, pieces portray different artists is exceptionally fine detail. The Old Masters pattern is the rarest of the Antoine Heller patterns! Heller worked as a die chaser - he hand finished the molds used in die stamping silver. Due to the technical difficulty and great detail of the work - and the great expense of making dies for stamping - this was traditionally the highest paying craft position in a silver (or metal) shop. Heller went on to design silver at Gorham and left to work for Tiffany, creating the Olympian pattern. After that he studied at L'Ecole des Beaux Arts in Paris, where Gorham lured him back to work in Providence, where he created some of the most exquisitely die stamped patterns ever made including: Old Masters, Versailles, Cluny, St. Cloud and Mythologique. (See Gorham Silver by Charles Carpenter and the Gorham Flatware 1888 Catalog Reprint.) Heller served as the Gorham company’s chief designer until his death in 1904, and led the company in adopting the academic style that harkened back to ancient Greek and Roman traditions. He was especially known for the precision with which he executed the steel dies that would be used for the drop presses. This talent was remarked upon with envy by several French critics and journals including La France, who lauded, “M. Heller is at once an inspired artist, having the gift of style, of grace and of elegance; and a workman possessing a skill without a rival—a hand for which no obstacle exists…” Superb multi-motif figural Old Masters by Gorham, circa 1885, sterling silver Flatware set - 122 pieces. This highly sought after and incredibly scarce pattern features busts of the masters of art, in an exquisite finely detailed sculptural high-relief. This set has English hallmarks. It was over stamped (and Gorham marks removed) - the English hallmarks are for Sheffield England by Walker & Hall, with date mark for the year 1934. This service includes: 8 Dinner Knives, 9 3/8" 8 Dinner Forks, 7 3/8" - Correggio 8 Luncheon Knives, 8 3/8" - Karel Dujardin...
