Part tea set by John Ridgway c 1850
About the Item
This very attractive twenty-two piece porcelain part tea set by John Ridgway consists of two bread and butter or cake plates, six cups saucers and plates,a slop bowl and a creamer. The set is in Ridgway's Savoy shape and is decorated with an edge pattern of alternating pale yellow and maroon panels, from which hang hand coloured floral sprays, and finished off with extensive gilding. Other than the pattern number 5/346, the set is unmarked. The Savoy shape is illustrated in Plate 143, page 128 of Godden's "Ridgway Porcelains", and the cup shape is shown in Plate 1167 of Berthoud's "Compendium of British Cups". The plates have a diameter of 250 mm (10 inches) and the slop bowl measures 180 mm (7 inches) in diameter and stands 84 mm (3.25 inches) high. The set is in very good condition with minimal wear to the gilding. It would date from around 1850.

Chamberlain's Worcester Porcelain Hand Painted Part Tea Set
By Chamberlains Worcester
Located in East Geelong, VIC
This Chamberlain's Worcester porcelain hand painted and gilded tea set consists of 31 pieces- a teapot and stand, a lidded sugar box, milk jug, slop bowl, two cake plates and twelve tea bowls and twelve saucers. The pattern, 351, on Chamberlain's New Oval shape, has retained its vibrancy of colour, but the gilding on the handles shows some wear. Four of the pieces have sustained some damage, the most obvious is to the tip of the teapot spout which has been fitted with a metal collar so that it can still pour. There are also two small chips to the inside rim of the pot. The sugar box as a chip to the base and another to the underside of the lid. One of the plates has a star crack to the base, and one of the teabowls has a crack. The milk jug has a shallow firing crack to the inside, but this was filled with glaze in the factory. Apart from the pattern number, the set is unmarked. However, the pattern is shown in plate 239 of Berthoud's "Compendium of British Cups". The teapot corresponds with plate 1001 of Berthoud's "Directory of British Teapots...
