About the Item
A superb 20th Century champagne bucket / wine cooler. With a tapered, smooth body and grooved bands flanking the mounted plaque, the front displays a 'CHAMPAGNE A. MERAND & Co' plaque on a hand-hammered background. The angled handles reflect an Art Deco style. It is a stunning addition to both modern and classic homes, when not in use it can be used as a flower vase. Stamped underneath "ARGIT, MADE IN FRANCE".
A. Merand & Co. was a champagne producer based in Épernay, a renowned town in the Champagne region of France. The company, like many in the area, specialised in the production of high-quality sparkling wines, adhering to the traditional méthode champenoise. Épernay, often referred to as the capital of Champagne, is home to some of the most prestigious Champagne houses, and A. Merand & Co. contributed to the region's reputation for excellence in winemaking. While details about the company's current status are scarce, it was part of the vibrant Champagne industry known for its fine vintages.
