Ian Rylatt Four Stylish Studio Pottery Coffee Cups

About the Item

A stunning set of four stylish studio pottery coffee cups designed and made by Welsh based potter Ian Rylatt believed to date from the latter 20th Century. Ian Rylatt was born in Lincoln and attended Lincoln College of Art before going onto Manchester Polytechnic. He has been a self-employed potter since 1988, and his work is focused on form and his creations are certainly intriguing and unique in their style. He has since moved to Wales and has become a member of the Makers Guild of Wales and exhibits his work in Cardiff. As a ‘collector’ of studio pottery these unusual stoneware hand-thrown cups certainly caught my eye, not least of all by their unique range of colors. The cups stand raised on a narrow round column formed foot with wide round bodies with a short narrowing top rim and with a fold over rounded rim. The cups have raised loop handles to the side and are individually glazed in yellow, oatmeal, mauve and tenmoku brown glazes. Each has an impressed maker’s mark to the base. Provenance: acquired in the British art market. In good condition.
