About the Item

This piece features a fantastic texture and rich, sumptuous, deep ocean-like blue crackle glaze that changes shades and colors depending on the light. It absolutely radiates. Wyman, who received his master's at Columbia University, was the founder (along with fellow potter Michael Cohen) of Herring Run Pottery in East Weymouth, Massachusetts. The piece is signed by Wymann with his impressed "W W" monogram and fish symbol. It was created while at Herring Run sometime between 1962-1969. Wyman's ceramic works can be found in numerous collections and museums including: Addison Gallery of American Art, Andover, Massachusetts Brooklyn Museum of Art, Brooklyn, New York Currier Museum of Art, Manchester, New Hampshire Des Moines Art Center, Des Moines, Iowa Everson Museum of Art, Syracuse, New Hampshire Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York, New York Minneapolis Institute of Art, Minneapolis, Minnesota Museum of Arts and Design, New York, New York Museum of Fine Arts, Boston, Massachusetts Newark Museum, Newark, New Jersey Philadelphia Museum of Art, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania Smithsonian American Art Museum, Renwick Gallery, Washington, D.C. Victoria and Albert Museum, London, England Wyman's work is becoming scarce and hard to find.
