Diorama nautico raffigurante il mezzo scafo in navigazione a vele spiegate del veliero trapanese Rosina Siele varato nel 1908 e alloggiato nella sua originale teca in legno e vetro dalla forma trapezoidale con sportello apribile. Buono stato, patina originale.
Il modello ritrae una nave in navigazione a tre alberi e a poppavia un terzo albero di mezzana, mentre sulla destra della teca è raffigurata una chiesetta in legno con un faro sulla sinistra, si tratta della chiesa seicentesca di San Liberale situata proprio sul mare all’estremità nord occidentale di Trapani a testimonianza dell’importante legame dei trapanesi con il mare.
Misure base cm. 103- inch 40.5 - tetto cm. 65 inch 25.6 - altezza cm. 53,5 – inch 21.1 e profondità cm. 11,5 – inch 4.5.
Il modellismo navale nasce per motivi religiosi. Non contento della banalità della propria vita l’uomo ne vuole un’altra e per di più eterna, ma l’anima – per definizione immateriale – ha bisogno di un mezzo per raggiungere l’aldilà; deve attraversare un fiume, e per farlo ha bisogno di una barca. Il più antico modello è un’imbarcazione d’argento di una sessantina di centimetri trovata negli scavi di Ur in Mesopotamia, l’odierno Iraq, e risale al 2.000 a.C. Il modellismo rinasce nel XV secolo sempre per motivi religiosi, ma questa volta come ex-voto, anche se i modelli più importanti e preziosi erano quelli costruiti dai cantieri navali: infatti fino al XVII secolo le navi non venivano progettate con un disegno; si decideva lunghezza, larghezza, alberi, armamento e poi ci si affidava a un cantiere navale di fiducia che “a occhio” costruiva la nave secondo le istruzioni ricevute. Per convincere il sovrano o il ministro che doveva finanziare la costruzione era però necessario fargli vedere qualcosa, e per mostrargli come sarebbe stata la nave si costruiva allora un modello spesso di grandi dimensioni, e quanto più era ben fatto tanto meglio rispondeva al marketing del tempo; spesso il re si innamorava del modello e lo teneva per sé, ed è per questo che molti di questi modelli – vere opere d’arte - sono giunti sino a noi e sono tutti custoditi gelosamente nei vari musei navali.
