Early Twentieth-Century Mask With Powerful Expression
About the Item
This striking early twentieth-century mask, from the Kete culture in the Democratic Republic of the Congo, previously belonged to the private collection of Penn Kent, the former Director of the Bank of England. The mask has been finely carved with a prominent pair of powerfully protruding eyes with pointed metal tips. Adorning the surface of the mask are engraved markings, and natural yellow and white pigments.
