Powerful Cubist Dogon Antelope Mask Raffia Mali West Africa Tall Vertical Eyes
About the Item
Cubist Dogon carved wood Antelope mask with attached raffia, from Mali West Africa. Tall vertical eyes, small slit mouth. Pair of carved curved blackened antelope horns rise from top of the head, long blackened ears. With wonderful natural motion to the carvings and the wood. Carved from one piece of solid hardwood with attachments. Some remains of rope netting to fit over dancer's head. Remains of paint, soiling and wear inside from traditional use.
