About the Item

Glass Murano chandelier mod. Giogali designed by Angelo Mangiarotti for Vetreria Vistosi, 1970. Aluminium structure, Murano glass elements, excellent condition. ANGELO MANGIAROTTI was born in Milan on 26 February 1921. In 1948 he graduated in architecture at the Polytechnic of the same city. From 1953 to 1954 he worked in the United States, taking part in the "LOOP" competition in Chicago. During this time abroad he met Frank Lloyd Wright, Walter Gropius, Mies van der Rohe and Konrad Wachsmann. Returning from the USA in 1955, he opened a studio in Milan with Bruno Morassuti until 1960. In 1989 he founded the Tokyo-based Mangiarotti & Associates Office. From 1986 to 1992 he was art director of Colle Cristalleria. Mangiarotti supports the professional activity, whose works are published in books, specialized magazines and newspapers, an intense didactic activity carried out in Italian and foreign universities. In 1953-1954 he was a visiting professor at the Institute of Design of the Illinois Institute of Tecnology in Chicago; in 1963-1964 he taught at the Istituto Superiore di Disegno Industriale in Venice; in 1970 he was a visiting professor at the University of Hawaii; in 1974 at the Ecole Politecnique Fédérale in Lausanne, in 1976 at the University of Adelaide and the South Australian Institute of Technology in Adelaide; in 1982 he is a professor at the Faculty of Architecture in Palermo; in 1983 he was a substitute professor for composition at the Faculty of Architecture in Florence; in 1989-90 he was a professor at the Faculty of Architecture in Milan; In 1997 he was appointed professor at the degree course in Industrial Design of the Faculty of Architecture of the Politecnico di Milano. Holds numerous seminars and conferences at international level.

Large Nuvola ceiling lamp designed by Tobia Scarpa for Flos, 1963. Internal structure in white painted steel, sprayed with special resin cocoon, first edition in excellent conditions. Adjustable height, the cable measures 120 cm but can be lengthened or shortened according to the desired height. Original piece from the 60s, despite the fragility of the material, this Nuvola pendant lamp is in excellent vintage condition, the lamp still mounts its original cable and the black sphere at the base. The original lampshade remains intact with an incredible patina acquired over the years.The lamp has been revised by a professional, fully functional.
