About the Item

Truly impressive and all handcrafted, hexagonal Gothic light fixture. If you are a collector of truly amazing Gothic antiques then this good size and probably one of a kind pendant could be flying your way soon. With antique light fixtures as one of our specialities, we have never seen a Gothic Revival lantern of these materials and with such an amazing presence. The combination of the hexagonal Gothic design out of amber glass and the six handpainted, colorful 'panels' really makes this a work of art light fixture. The six glass panels clearly have the shape of Gothic church windows and in each of these 'windows' is a Medieval castle painting. The colors in these scenes combined with the stunning amber glass, make this one of the most remarkable and enjoyable fixtures to look at, ever. The brass finial as well as the other brass elements have been refinished and the blackened metal chains have been replaced. This actually was a candle lantern. By simultaneously pulling the brass finial down and pushing the glass shade up, the candle holder inside the finial will be revealed. However, this lantern is now wired to the highest standard for safe and immediate usage in the USA as well. To make a long story short, you just don't find all handcrafted fixtures of this age and beauty anymore. It may have originally hung in a monastery or church or maybe above the main entrance of a medieval style chateau/castle in France. We are not sure. What we ARE certain of is that it is highly unlikely that we or you will ever find a Gothic Revival fixture that is as impressive as this amazing specimen. It radiates a warm light that is second to none. Both with the light switched on and off this pendant is unlike anything you will have ever seen. Mind you, our fair price for this rare lantern includes perfect packing (in a custom made box) and also free worldwide delivery from our store to your door in just 4 to 6 days. Maximum height x diameter: 40 x 9.85 inches. Height of the lantern without chain and canopy but with the finial below: 17.3 inches. Condition:
Refinished. Replacements made: The blackened metal 'roller chains' have been replaced and they work perfectly if you wish to use this piece as a candle lantern (as described above). Wear consistent with age and use. We found it difficult to get both the canopy and the shade hanging level simultaneously. We chose to hang the shade leveled and then the canopy is a little 'off' (see photos). There is minor fading to the paintings. Also read our item description.
