About the White Telephones period, in Italy
The name comes from the presence of white telephones in the sequences of some films produced in this period, symptomatic of social well-being: a status symbol designed to mark the difference from the black telephones, more widespread.
They are characters who move within a rich environment and often influenced by foreign fashions. A meeting between a boy and a girl from different social classes, with a happy ending that sanctions the social climb. An essential element of these films is the grandiose setting (another definition is: Decò cinema for the strong presence of furnishing objects that recall the international decò style in vogue in those years) with monumental staircases, Greek statues, transparent curtains, a dream world very distant from everyday life.
