About the Item

Peanut lamp (P 163) - designed by Bent Karlby in 1946 and produced by Lyfa - very rare and extremely attractive pendant in very good vintage condition! This is a rare find (including all original parts) - and in this very good vintage condition! handblown opalized glass with an attractive curvy shape, complimented by a polished brass top and bottom. The brass bottom carries narrow peepholes, a Karlby trademark, and hold an opal glass diffuser plate - matte on one side to diffuse the light optimally. The bottom brass fixture is screwed onto the glass shade by four small screws. Towards the top, a flat brass "lid" is screwed onto the glass shade to lock it in place. The thick opal glass shade is designed to provide a uniformly lit surface, while ensuring a soft comfortable light, while the opal glass diffuser in the bottom ensure a glare free experience. In 1949 Bent Karlby designed a range of lights, produced by Lyfa - 12 chandeliers, 13 pendants, two ceiling lights, 13 wall lights and one floor lamp - many similar with softly curvy opalized glass shades and decorative brass tops / bottoms, but different in their shapes and sizes. When Karlby designed this curvy opal glass pendant with narrow waist in 1946, it was produced by Lyfa under the name P 163. It was among the lighting design Karlby created for Lyfa in 1949 - this time in three variation. In 1952 Lyfa changed the name to Peanut lamp. Some may also refer to this pendant as Snowball pendant. Absolutely a charming and alluring vintage piece - fit for many purposes - like over a dining table or kitchen table, perhaps lighting up a stair way, or in the sitting area. If you are looking to add a rare original vintage designer light to contrast your modern digital life - this is an excellent piece for that! It oozes Classic Danish design from the 1940s! Condition: Very good vintage condition with few signs of usage and age - there are two minor flaws from the production and a few thin black lines. Please see the photos! All original, but rewired with 2 m (6' 6.7") high end quality, white fabric cord - for safety and beauty. Tested and fully functional. Cleaned, brass parts polished, labeled and packed in protective bag. Light source: One bulb, Edison screw-fitting (E27/E26) Max 75 Watt.
