About the Item

Art Deco nickelled bronze chandelier dating from the 1930’s by Atelier Petitot. The bottom of the chandelier body is made of a rectangular nickelled frame. There is a sandblasted glass plate at the bottom and a sandblasted glass plate with clear edges on top. There are 4 «invisible» LED lights hidden in the frame of the body. Four nickel-plated bronze rods are topped with a rectangular recessed bail cover (ceiling mounting which is used to cover the electrical box). About Henri Petitot Henri Petitot was quickly recognized as an important designer and manufacturer of the Art Deco period. From the beginning of his career, he manufactured elegant bronze frames for the chandeliers, sconces and lamp for his peers. The Muller Brothers in Lunéville or the Schneider firm, among others, used this talented craftsman to equip their art glass works with high-quality frames and many of the chandelier frames of these glassmakers bear the A.P. signature for Atelier Petitot. Later he designed his own glass works in collaboration with the Muller Brothers who supplied them to him. These chandeliers and sconces were mostly cubist in inspiration, sober and with geometric decorations that contrasted sharply with the floral decorations of other glass makers. Little by little, he made resolutely modernist chandeliers and sconces which definitively established his notoriety which continues today throughout the world. The chandeliers, which could take different shapes (oval, rectangular, octagonal), were made of bronze, sandblasted glass and glass rods and the bodies were elegant, modernist and powerful. The sandblasted glass plate often had a clear edge which produced a warm light. The assembly of the chandeliers is often very ingenious, it combines the strength of bronze and the delicacy glass plate, judiciously placed on the various parts of the structure. Italian, Neoclassical, Montgolfier, Chandelier, Glass, 8 lights, 1780 - 1820
Located in SAINT-OUEN-SUR-SEINE, FR
Wonderful and rare Italian chandelier in the "Montgolfière" - Hot Air Balloon - style dating from the end of the 18th – beginning of the the 19th century (circa 1780 - 1820). Built around an exceptional glass column made of a single piece of glass (75 cm) which surmounts and holds a gold leaf gilded cup. 8 solid glass arms illuminate the chandelier. At the top of the chandelier a crown of almond beads and drops forms the canopy. The chandelier is then festooned with garlands of almond shaped beads and drops. Garlands festoon from the top to a circular ring in the middle. The garlands then festoon from the circular ring and are attached to a central piece underneath. This style is typical of hot air balloon and Regency chandeliers. At the end of the 18th century, under the reign of Louis XVI, King of France, the Montgolfier brothers invented the Montgolfière. This invention inspired cabinetmakers and decorators of the 18th and 19th centuries. Hot air balloon chairs...
