PH 3/2 Academy Crown Designed By Poul Henningsen From 2000s

About the Item

The PH 3/2 Academy crown, designed by Poul Henningsen in 1925-1926 and launched in 2000, is a testament to the timeless elegance and innovative design principles of Henningsen's work. Manufactured by Louis Poulsen, this exquisite lighting fixture combines hand-blown white opal glass with high-gloss chrome plating, creating a sophisticated and contemporary aesthetic. The crown features Henningsen's signature multi-shade system, which ensures glare-free, evenly distributed light. The hand-blown opal glass shades provide a soft, diffuse illumination that enhances any interior space, while the high-gloss chrome-plated frame adds a modern touch and reflects the surrounding decor, making the fixture a versatile addition to various settings. Originally conceived in the mid-1920s, the PH 3/2 Academy crown was reintroduced in 2000, showcasing the enduring appeal and relevance of Henningsen's design philosophy. This chandelier not only illuminates beautifully but also serves as a striking focal point, blending classic and contemporary elements to create a timeless piece of functional art.

Pendel Model PH 3/2 Akademi By Poul Henningsen For Louis Poulsen
By Louis Poulsen, Poul Henningsen
Located in Lejre, DK
Poul Henningsen's collaboration with Louis Poulsen began as early as 1925-1926, when PH, in partnership with Louis Poulsen, designed the first lamps for an exhibition in Paris. This collaboration lasted until his death in 1967. Throughout his life, PH aimed to create glare-free light, directing the light where it was needed and producing soft shadows using the incandescent bulb as the light source. The PH 3/2 Academy Pendant is part of the 3-shade family, which now comprises 30 lamps, including 3 for outdoor use. PH didn't just design a lamp but an entire system, resulting in approximately a thousand different variations produced over the years. The extensive selection included table lamps, floor lamps, and wall lamps. Additionally, there were various chandeliers that became highly popular as high-hanging lighting fixtures...

Poul Henningsen Ph 6½-6 Pendant
By Poul Henningsen, Louis Poulsen
Located in Berkeley, CA
The trumpet-shaped top shade provides illumination of the area above the three lower shades, which primarily direct the light downwards. A base reflector and a blue glare ring protect against glare from all angles. The strongest light is directly under the fixture. The shades have a matte white painted finish to ensure very comfortable lighting. Poul Henningsen designed the three-shade system during 1925/1926. The first lights using the system were designed for an exhibition in Paris. His work with Louis Poulsen continued until his death in 1967. Throughout his life, PH sought to create glare-free lighting; aiming to direct light where it was most needed, and creating soft shadows while using incandescent bulbs as a light source. The four-shade system was launched in 1931 to create a fixture that could be mounted high up and serve as an alternative to the commonly used chandeliers. The PH four-shade fixture was designed to increase the amount of light emitted horizontally to provide greater illumination of walls and shelves than was possible using standard three-shade lights. It was removed from the Louis Poulsen standard range in the 1940s, but was redesigned in 1979 by Danish architects, Sophus Frandsen and Ebbe Christensen, for the Charlottenborg exhibition building in Copenhagen (although in a larger size: PH 6...
