About the Item

POUL HENNINGSEN'S FIRST CHANDELIER In 1915, Poul Henningsen was entrusted with the task of being the architect for the refurbishment of a villa on Frederiksberg Allé, where the first PH lamp was installed. Poul Henningsen later described the chandelier himself in 1966: "Many strange and twisted things came out of this order, including a modern chandelier." The chandelier is shaped like an eight-arm prism chandelier with a frame of patinated brass, studded with prisms and with a central part and canopy of red glass. The red glass bowl in the middle of the crown is an attempt to adjust the color of the light in the room, so despite Poul Henningsen's own harsh judgement, the madness still made sense. A collector's item. Provenance: The lamp was left in the attic of Falk Jensen’s holiday home in North Zealand for over 70 years. Hence by descent to previous owner's family. Literature: Literature: "Tænd!". This lamp mentioned on p. 76 under the chapter "The light is tamed - From prisms to mirror screens - The first lamp constructions from the hand of Poul Henningsen".
