About the Item
Exceptional Swedish Art Deco alabaster pendant light dating from the 1930s. This striking piece features a distinctive stepped design crafted from translucent alabaster with natural veining that creates a warm, ambient glow when illuminated. The pendant is suspended by its original gold-toned rope cords with decorative knots and tassels, adding an elegant contrast to the smooth stone shade. The alabaster displays beautiful natural marbling patterns in cream, gray and black tones.
This lighting fixture exemplifies Swedish Grace, a refined national interpretation of Art Deco that flourished in 1920s-1930s Sweden, known for combining classical elegance with modern simplicity. The pendant showcases the hallmark Scandinavian craftsmanship of the period, creating a dramatic focal point whether illuminated or not. Perfect for a dining area, entryway or living space seeking authentic period lighting with timeless appeal.
It remains in great vintage condition with only minimal signs of age, including light surface patina and a few microscopic chips that are imperceptible when the pendant is hanging. The alabaster retains its original luster and structural integrity, preserved beautifully over nearly a century. The lamp is in full working order with a European ceiling plug attached. North American customers will simply need to change the plug to meet local standards. As with all vintage lighting, we recommend having a qualified electrician inspect the wiring before installation, as we have not rewired this piece.
