About the Item
The Shelley Light, by Jakob Uhlin for By Republiken is artisanally made of recycled plastic. The triangular components constituting the pendant lamp create a captivating and faceted appearance, offering an intriguing visual impression. The lamp's three openings add a compelling three-dimensional aspect to its design.
Light diffuses uniquely from various angles, providing a dynamic illumination experience. An inner shade, crafted from the same triangular building pieces, shields the light source.
Our process involves collecting used household containers made of polypropylene plastics, commonly used for food containers. After thorough washing, a hand-driven punch is employed to meticulously cut out the triangular building pieces from these recycled plastic containers. This sustainable process gives new life to materials that would otherwise be discarded. Every lamp sculpture is unique because each one features different images on their inside.

Size, color and shape are variables that can be customized. The images displaying the smaller globular and pyramid shapes can give you an idea of the versatility of colors and shapes.

We always check the triangular pieces to ensure their overall quality. There might be natural imperfections as part of the use of the recycled materials. Some could have a bit bleached appearance. We always send spare triangular pieces if you want to change some of the pieces.

By Republiken operates as a design studio and workshop housed in a weathered old station house, tucked away in the dense forests of Bergslagen, Sweden. Our mission revolves around the mindful utilization of materials, acknowledging their finite nature. Hence, we specialize in creating furniture and art from recycled materials, mainly sourced locally and crafted with artisanal care.
By Republiken creates an array of lamp sculptures from recycled plastic, offering ready-made, customized, and bespoke designs. Our clientele includes interior designers, businesses, and private clients. We bring innovative lighting solutions to diverse spaces.
As a branch of Republiken, By Republiken shares the overarching vision of fostering social and environmental sustainability. Alongside our lamp production, another branch of Republiken; Butiken Republiken, curates and sells meticulously chosen antique and vintage furniture and objects, available through platforms like 1stDibs and our own website.
As yet another branch of Republiken we facilitate workshops like Multilampa, where collaborative lamp sculpture projects are undertaken in partnership with organizations, companies, schools, and beyond, fostering collaboration, creativity and innovation.
