Stunning French, Antique Gothic Art Deco Design, Chrome Metal Pendant Light 1920

About the Item

Excellent condition and marvelous design, glass-art pendant. This incredibly stylish, french-made pendant is in excellent condition and it is an absolute joy to look at, both on and off. Its good size and timeless geometrical Art Deco design makes this light fixture suitable for all kinds of rooms and all types of interiors. However, because of the unique hexagonal shape with the Gothic church window-like pattern on all six sides this unique light will look particularly well in a Gothic Style (inspired) interior. The combination of the chromed brass Art Deco hardware and the mint glass shade really is a match made in the light fixture heavens. What makes this light extra special are the alternating transparent glass and satinated glass elements that give it its extra depth. With this rare light we had the same challenge as with our alabaster light fixtures, because no matter how hard we try, this piece just looks so much better and beautiful in real life than in any of our images. Especially when we try to shoot photos from further away, because in real life this stunning glass shade then still looks as sharp and stylish as in our close-up photos, but you cannot see that in our photos. You will, again, have to take our word for it. Thanks to the metal hook inside the height adjustable canopy, easily mounting this light tight to your ceiling will take no more than a minute. This striking antique pendant will also be rewired to the highest standard for safe and immediate usage in the country it will go to. By the way, just like the canopy, the unique Gothic glass shade of this pendant too is height adjustable. In images 7, 8 and 9 we show you the shortest possible and the longest possible height of this one of a kind Gothic Art Deco pendant. Again great value for money. Also, because perfect packing (in a custom made box) and worldwide delivery from our store to your door in just 4 to 6 days are complimentary. Measures: Maximum height x diameter: 22.4 x 7.9 inches. Height of the Gothic glass shade alone: 11.4 inches. We have a passion for the unique, for quality, for stylish yet practical and for craftsmanship of years gone by. Your purchases will be extremely well packaged and we look forward to serving you (again).

  • Stunning Victorian Lighting Gothic Brass & Mouth Blown Art Glass Pendant Lantern
    Located in Lisse, NL
Graceful and all handcrafted antique light fixture. This early Arts & Crafts era pendant has an aesthetic beauty that you don't find anymore in this day and age. It has the most pleasing to the eye shape and amber color and the handcrafted brass has a marvelous patina. In images 2 and 3 you can see that this unique light fixture started its life as (and still is) a candle lantern. Because of the Gothic quatrefoil details this may have been a sanctuary lamp at the entrance of a church or monastery. The beautifully patinated brass is all hand-crafted, but the unique art glass shade with its unique hand-etched, flowery patterns and amazing color is what makes this antique truly special. Have you also noticed the 'stand-alone' etched oak branches with acorns? They symbolize growth and unlimited potential since an acorn can grow into a huge oak tree that, by itself, can seed an entire forest. Both with the light switched on and off you could not wish for a more stylish, European antique fixture. It is of the kind that you certainly don't find anymore in this day and age. This ideal hallway or bedroom pendant light...

A stunning pair of very fine quality French Neo-Gothic gilt metal church reliquaries. circa 1860s Most impressive objets d’art, born in France in the second half of the 19th century, most likely Parisian gilded bronze and brass ormolu work, exceptionally executed sculptural form, the exquisitely detailed architectural cathedral shaped case having a removable pointed steeple roof with cross finial, opening to relic display case surrounded on all sides by original glazed glass panes, stepped base, rising on disc feet. Additional photos available upon request Dimensions: (approx) 14.75" High, 6.75" Wide, 6.75" Deep; 13.25 lbs total History: A reliquary (also referred to as a shrine, by the French term châsse or monstrance) is a container for important religious relics. The earliest reliquaries were essentially boxes, either simply box-shaped or based on an architectural design, taking the form of a model of a church with a pitched roof. These latter are known by the French term chasse, and typical examples from the 12th to 14th century have wooden frameworks with gilt-copper plaques nailed on, decorated in champlevé enamel. Limoges was the largest production centre; NB the English usage differs from that of the French châsse, which denotes large size rather than shape. Relics of the True Cross became very popular from the 9th century onward and were housed in magnificent gold and silver cross-shaped reliquaries decorated with enamels and precious stones. From about the end of the 10th century, reliquaries in the shape of the relics they housed also became popular; hence, for instance, the skull of Pope Alexander I was housed in a head-shaped reliquary. Similarly, the bones of saints were often housed in reliquaries that recalled the shape of the original body part, such as an arm or a foot. A philatory is a transparent reliquary designed to contain and exhibit the bones and relics of saints. This style of reliquary has a viewing portal to view the relic inside. The feretrum was a medieval form of reliquary or shrine containing the sacred effigies and relics of a saint. During the later Middle Ages, the monstrance form, primarily used for consecrated hosts, was sometimes used for reliquaries. These housed the relic in a rock crystal, or glass capsule mounted on a column above a base, enabling the relic to be displayed to the faithful. Reliquaries in the form of large pieces of metalwork jewellery also appeared around this time, housing tiny relics such as pieces of the Holy Thorn, notably the Holy Thorn Reliquary now in the British Museum. Condition: Superb museum quality examples, in excellent original unrestored antique condition with beautifully aged patina. Wear consistent with age and use. Heavily patinated - scattered oxidation. Overall wonderful examples. Typically reliquaries were not sold in pairs, so to find a matching pair such as this is exceptionally rare.
