Very Modern Brass & Lucite Chandelier & Sconces from George V Hotel Paris 1960's

About the Item

One-of-a-kind - A unique opportunity to own a piece of French luxury and history... Spectacular and large chandelier with 6 matching sconces from the George V Hotel in Paris. Circa 1960s. In the style of Gaetano Sciolari or Gino Sarfatti. We contacted the George V hotel in Paris, now owned by the Four Seasons group, and learned that they did not keep the archives from that period. Therefore, they have been unable to confirm the artist or the manufacturer of this chandelier and sconces. This chandelier and sconces represent a moment in history from a Parisian hotel where famous people and celebrities from around the world stayed for decades. The structure is metal. Four iron frames must be assembled to form a unique frame of approximately 240 x 240 cm (95" x 95"). On this structure, 8 pieces of aluminum covered in brass are screwed on like a puzzle, separated by heavy bronze frames. From this structure hang around one thousand (1000) lucite (acrylic) tubes (rods) arranged in a diamond pattern. The tallest tube measures 120 cm (4 ft) high. Unfortunately, we do not have images of the chandelier when it was mounted on the ceiling at the George V hotel, as at that time, photography was not allowed inside the hotel. The sconces measure approximately 68 cm wide (27") by 21 cm deep (8") by 120 cm (4ft) high, with the 54 tubes (rods) installed. The wiring needs to be fully redone with an LED system. The original wiring used neon lights. We are well-known in Los Angeles for having sold the 11 ft x 8 ft tall chandelier from the WAGRAM casino in Paris, as well as the 7 ft x 5 ft chandelier from La Maison du Télégraphe restaurant in Paris, which is now installed in the Wilshire hotel in Los Angeles. We have also been fortunate to have sold chandeliers from the restaurant of the famous singer Johnny Hallyday in Paris, among others. Due to space constraints, we have decided to offer this unique opportunity to a project developer, architect, or interior designer to install this one-of-a-kind set in an appropriate building that will reflect and bring a touch of the elegance of the George V Hotel. The chandelier and sconces were removed from the hotel approximately 50 years ago and stored in France. Some lucite parts are missing but can be easily redone. To provide context for this extraordinary piece, here's a brief description of its original home: The George V Hotel in Paris during the 1960s epitomized the pinnacle of luxury and glamour in the French capital. Located in the heart of the 8th arrondissement near the Champs-Élysées, this Art Deco jewel attracted a who's who of international celebrities, politicians, and royalty. Its opulent interiors, adorned with crystal chandeliers and fine antiques, provided a lavish setting for the social elite of the era. While maintaining its classic French elegance, the George V skillfully adapted to the changing times of the "Swinging Sixties," offering modern amenities alongside its timeless charm. Renowned for its impeccable service, fine dining, and unparalleled sophistication, the George V stood not merely as a hotel, but as a cultural icon and a symbol of Parisian refinement during this vibrant decade.
