This small and dazzling handcrafted opaline Murano chandelier has four flexing arms with prominent tri-lobed cups. The opaline glass veers towards a light blue color with subtle changes in the light. Daffodils and leaves embellish this glass chandelier, blooming from the small bulbous center column. The piece has further detailing of scroll stems, twirling leaf ends, and rigaree trim; exhibiting a masterful flair in glass craftsmanship.
The glass houses on the island of Murano are famous for highly ornamented glass chandeliers created by the inflation of molten glass followed by cutting, pincering, and other rapidly executed decorations and details. The body and arms of this piece are made of opaline Venetian glass. Opaline glass is typically made bluish-white by adding Calcium phosphate (bone ash) and opalescent by adding fluorides. The gestural nature of this material suits the shifting opalescent hues.
