About the Item
A pair of imposing antique cast iron columns mounted as street lamps. Each Doric pillar fluted and tapering from the square base to a slender top, each now mounted with an antique frosted glass shade in the form of an inverted urn
The base of these lamps are each cast with the words "Powerlite Devices Ltd. Toronto". They date from the late 19th or early 20th century.
Rather too grand to simply illuminate a street, they probably flanked the entrance to an imposing public building. The shades are early 20th century and complement the columns well.
