Contemporary black floor lamp - pressed wood light by Johannes Hemann
Material: wood, steel powdercoated

The series „pressed wood black“ is based on the traditional technique of bent wood, but Johannes Hemann combined it with pressure to get a different look. The first step is to put pressure on fresh cut wood and divide it into its fibres. Thereafter the traditional bending technique is being used: steaming the wood and bending it into moulds. Finally the fibrous wood with glue being pressed into the mold. Due to the wood being divided into its fibres, it is possible to achieve much smaller radio or to change the nature round base to a rectangular profile, for example, or any other shape that might follow.
For this series Johannes Hemann is using U shaped bases which are combined to make a stool by combining 2 U shaped branches with a leather/wood combination. The light is totally shaped from fibrous wood. The parts are stained in black.
Made by hand, in Germany.
This item is made to order. All our lamps can be wired according to each country. If sold to the USA it will be wired for the USA for instance.

The idea behind the creation of the Daphine lamp is as simple as it is effective: a pivoting diffuser, an articulated arm in two segments and an electromechanical transformer on a cylindrical base between two metal caps.
The Daphine first “saw the light” in a small workshop in Sedriano (Milan province) in 1975 thanks to the skilful hands of Tommaso Cimini, a mechanical engineering expert, and the machines he had retooled for the purpose.
The Daphine springs from Tommaso Cimini’s design philosophy, “Lots of light, not much lamp”, which is still the essence of every product bearing the name of Lumina, the company he set up in 1980.
45 years on, the Daphine’s aesthetic and functionality are unchanged, which goes to show the validity of the original idea.
