Future Fossils Magma Lamp in Terracotta Stoneware and Amber Glass by Simon Johns
About the Item
Future Fossils Magma Lamp is a floor lamp made of stoneware, polished aluminum and thick blown glass. Molds are made of a hand carved texture, clay is pressed into 2 parts of these forms, and thick glass is blown into the last section. The result is a continuous texture that travels through two materials both from the mineral world, one of them looking as though it could still be molten. There is an edition of 5 + 1 AP for these lamps, 3 right handed and 3 left handed, all unique.

Simon Johns
Simon Johns is a Canadian fine arts-trained designer working out of the woods in southern Quebec. He approaches design with hands-on studio experiments closer to sculpture than to design. His work draws from relations between the manufactured product and the raw surroundings of the studio's wooded location. His work has been shown at Sight Unseen Offsite for NY Design Week in 2016 and 2017, at Wanted Design Manhattan 2016 and 2017, and at the Toronto Design Offsite (TODO) 2017 and 2018.
