Rare 1965 Orange Serpente Floor Lamp by Elio Martinelli for Martinelli Luce
About the Item
Rare early edition of the iconic Serpente floor lamp, designed by Elio Martinelli for Martinelli Luce in 1965. This version features its original high-gloss orange enamel finish, a sculptural enameled steel arm, and a swiveling white methacrylate diffuser — an innovation of its time. The lamp’s looping, almost biomorphic form was made possible by new molding techniques developed during the 1960s, which Martinelli embraced to full effect.
Part of the wave of postwar Italian lighting design that combined futurism with functionality, the Serpente is one of Martinelli's most celebrated designs. It rotates at the shade, casting a soft, ambient glow.
In original vintage condition with signs of wear throughout, including surface scratches, small dents, and minor scuffs to the enamel. Fully functional. Takes a standard E26 medium base bulb (60W max).
