This ceiling lamp was designed during the 1960s, an era in which Finland saw the birth of many of its most iconic lighting models. It was a period of consistency, excellence, and sophistication design wise. Itsu, short for Itä-Suomen Sähkö (eng. Eastern Finland Electricity), was a small, lesser known manufacturer that produced characteristic models in small quantities. The best qualities of Finnish light fixtures’ are their atmospheric light and disciplined, functionalist design that is not short of subtle decorative elements; this lamp is no exception. As a semi flush mount, the brass canopy is fitted to the ceiling via a slender stem. This leaves a gap between the ceiling and the lamp, allowing for the light to hit the ceiling, while also providing downward light to bright up the room. The body has a rectangular shape with brass accents at the bottom and at the top. The warm, golden hue of the brass is complemented by a minimalist design, enabling the piece to seamlessly integrate into a variety of interior styles. The lamp's pleated fabric shade further adds a subtle touch of sophistication and helps diffuse the light in a soft, inviting manner.
