Rare & Large Shape Venetian Murano Pendant Light Mouthblown Amber Glass in Frame
Located in Lisse, NL
Large, powder colored and great condition Venetian light fixture. This Midcentury Venetian pendant is not only the largest of it's kind we ever had the pleasure of offering, it also is in exceptional condition. We have completely rewired it for safe and immediate usage in the US as well and we also have cleaned all the mouth blown glass both inside and out. The truly thick and amber colored glass is perfectly and symmetrically blown into the hand-knotted metal frame and the result is an absolute joy to look at. The amber color, is not transparent. This, what we call, rustic style pendant is hand-crafted in the exact same way and it has the same design as others, but in the proces something was done to the glass which has created a non-transparent, almost sugar coated surface. It is truly beautiful and other than with the transparent ones, it does not throw shade patterns on your walls and ceiling. It actually makes this stylish Venetian rarity much 'calmer' and atmospheric. The size and shape of this amazing work of Italian lighting fixture...

Late Arts and Crafts, Early Art Deco Bronze, Brass & Beveled Glass Pendant Light
Located in Lisse, NL
Good size and highly stylish antique entry hall lantern / pendant. Having been specialised in selling antique light fixtures for over 20 years we love to keep finding amazing fixtures that we have never seen before. This marvelously hand-crafted brass and transparent glass (all beveled) hallway pendant is another one of those rare finds off which we immediately knew we had to have it. There are so many interiors in which this antique pendant will look perfect that we have no doubt it will soon be gracing someones home again. Apart from the open design and the beautiful and durable materials this wonderful pendant light also stands out, because of the many, transparent and beveled glass panels in their perfect brass frames. Finding this rare light was a treat, but for all 36 glass 'windows' to have stood the test of 100 years time without any cracks is just amazing. The outside is a hexagonal design, but the 'base' and 'top' of this pendant are open and decorated with flowing bronze elements that make this work of lighting art even more beautiful. This classy and timeless pendant with its marvelous patina can be used and enjoyed in all sorts of rooms and interiors, but to us this is the ideal entry hall, landing or stairwell pendant...

Vintage, New and Antique Lanterns

Whether you’re in search of a functional fixture to help illuminate a room or just a minimalist ornamental touch, the choice of lighting is important. Selecting the perfect vintage, new or antique lanterns can transform an otherwise monotonous space in your home.

In the 1700s, lanterns became widely popular when accessibility broadened for whale oil, as fuel for lamps was one of its earliest uses. Lantern design evolved considerably during the mid- to late 19th century, when a powerful, adaptable fuel came into play: kerosene. Portable and immediately sought after, kerosene lamps were traditionally surrounded by a glass globe or tube that sat on a metal frame to protect the flame from spreading or extinguishing. (While reproductions abound, antique kerosene lanterns have since become collector's items.)

Later, in 1862, John H. Irwin created coil oil lamps, which were designed for coal oils as well as kerosene and lessened the risk of fire. They required plentiful oxygen to remain lit, and with refinements, the lamps could be used indoors. Lanterns increasingly came to be part of commercial spaces such as museums and theaters, and over time, lighting artisans worked to refine and perfect these innovative fixtures so that they weren’t only practical but also elegant, sophisticated additions to home decor.

Antiques inject a touch of classical chic into any space. With the right lantern, you could also deepen the impact of the collection of vases and vessels, sculptures or other decorative objects in a living room or dining room. It’s essential to find a balance between utility and aesthetics when choosing the perfect vintage–style lantern for your space, and the right lighting decisions can determine the underlying mood of a room as well as enhance the choices you’ve made for your home’s decor. While old-time charm is something to be cherished, there is lots to love in modern lanterns from today’s top furniture designers.

On 1stDibs, search by creator to find lanterns crafted by the likes of Woka Lamps, Barovier & Toso and Material Lust or browse the collection by style. From today’s standouts to mid-century modern classics to Art Deco–era innovations, find the best vintage, new or antique lantern for you now.
