About the Item

This Neoclassical French Bronze Gasolier Lantern is made of solid cast bronze chased with fine bronze casting still retaining the original geometric beveled glass panels. This Regency Style Lantern has the original bronze Yoke mounted on each side of the main gas line to believer gas form the ceiling to the fixture. The Yoke is beneath a bronze foliate decorated finial surrounding the main gas line. The square form gas lantern is topped with a four sided bronze pierced Fleur-de-lis Crown designed for the venting of heat and vapors. The Fleur-de-lis crowns the center of the canted bronze bead & reel motif muntin's holing four beveled glass panels. The four sides have canted bronze bead & reel motifs muntins holing five beveled glass panels with the center glass raised. Two of the sides have swinging center doors originally use for the lighting of the gas burners. The five canted sides are held together with bronze bead & reed mullions. Each corner has a bronze turned vase and ring balusters top with a five point Crown and finished with a turned drop finial at the base. The Regency Gas Lantern has been electrified in the early 20th century with a five light Edison cluster. We have the original gas line and fitter that was taken out of the Gasolier when electrified. The gasolier measures 21.5" Diagonal across the body of the lantern.

    Additions or alterations made to the original: Edison Light cluster added in the early 20th century. Rewired: Wired original from gas in the early 20th century and rewired again in 2022. Wear consistent with age and use. Minor losses. Minor fading. 21.5" Diagonal across the body of the lantern. There are a few minor dents. The brass loop for hanging with chain was add in the 20th century in place of the gas line to the ceiling.
