Gaetano Sciolari Sconce in Brass, Roma, Italy, 1950s. Beautiful neoclassical wall sconce in patinated brass by Gaetano Sciolari (1927-1994) for his company Sciolari in Roma, Italy. A distinct and elegant wall sconce, with two light sources and ornamental details. In great vintage condition with original label intact on the backside. The company Sciolari Illuminazione Roma was founded by his father in 1892 and when his father died in 1949, Angelo Gaetano Sciolari took over control. His famous lighting designs found their way to America when Lightolier began to sell them to Hollywood jetset. His designs were very popular and have also been used in several famous movies. He also designed for other companies, like Boulanger and Stilnovo. In great vintage shape with some minor patination.

Vilhelm Lauritzen 'VL Studio' wall lamp in brass for Louis Poulsen. Designed in the 1940s. New, current production. The VL Studio family derives from a lamp designed by architect Vilhelm Lauritzen for Radiohuset (The Radio House, headquarters of the Danish Broadcasting Corporation) in Copenhagen in the 1940s. The name ‘Studio’ was chosen because some of the lamps were used outside studios to indicate – with either a red or green light – whether recording was taking place. Vilhelm Lauritzen was the architect behind Radiohuset, which was inaugurated in his functionalist design in 1945. Radiohuset is a ‘gesamtkunstwerk’ – like most of Lauritzen’s buildings – meaning that he designed all the interiors and every detail of the building for the project.
