Italian Empire Vase Applique in Gilded Carved Wood Circa 1780

About the Item

Gilded Empire Applique Lamp Late 1700s obtained from a carved wooden palm vase gilded in fine gold, converted into a wall sconce for use as a wall lamp. In the back of this lamp one can still see the marks of a shoulder, a support element that allowed its vertical stability and the side marks of two handles, now gone. The central surface of the vase is finely chiseled on plaster and is decorated by the carving of a garland of flowers with two festoons. The terminal part has an original foliate carving decoration, unusual for palm holders. In good condition, this eighteenth-century period gilded wall sconce is working, suitable for an E27 bulb. Minor shortcomings to the gilding consistent with dating. Period: c. 1780 Height: 64cm Width: 28cm Depth: 10 cm Export from Italy is subject to Belle Arti, a government license that must be applied for from the ministry and whose issuance takes 2 to 3 weeks.
