About the Item

This gorgeous pair of 19th century Louis XVI sconces are made of beautiful, finely chiseled bronze d’ore. The pair has details in plenty; note the classic Louis XVI bow at top, the three branch arms attached to the center with a knotted fabric design, the fluting in the outreaching arms which land on patterned bronze candle cups and beautifully beaded bobeches. The backplate is finished at bottom with an acanthus leaf design, bookending this magnificent pair. Each piece in our shop is professionally rewired and in working order. Each chandelier comes with a vintage canopy, three feet of chain, and ample wire, and all materials needed to mount. Each piece is newly wired with UL approved wire and sockets and is fully operable. The piece is part of the collection from The French Antique Shop, a fourth generation antique store in the heart of the French Quarter of New Orleans. A space that was created and curated at first by Marie and Marcelle and Granet. Their first shop was located in the heart of Paris, and opened in 1919 after they migrated to Paris from Romania post World War I. Shortly after establishing themselves in Paris, as a Jewish family they were forced to flee in the late 1930s before World War II. Marie and Marcel opened up their shop in New Orleans in 1939, the city in which this antique collection has grown and continues to flourish. The store is now run by the third and fourth generation, Marc, Michael, and Brian Friedlander, and is a highly curated space filled with rare antiquities, fine antique lighting, eclectic fixtures, and everything in between. We have imported all the antique items in our collection directly from France.
