Pair of Rococo style gilt bronze sconces
French, 19th Century
Measures: Height 50cm, width 31cm, depth 16cm
This elegant pair of sconces beautifully demonstrates the Rococo, or Louis XV, style. Each gilt bronze sconce features an elongated backplate moulded with a host of superb foliate forms, such as splayed and grasping acanthus leaves. The backplate of each sconce supports three light branches, each branch ornately twisted and scrolled and moulded with further acanthus leaf forms. The branches support gilt bronze drip pans and candleholders.
