About the Item

Pair of Wall Lamps by Gino Sarfatti for Arteluce, 1950s - Brass and White Plexiglass, Published Design Rare and refined, this pair of mid-century wall sconces by Gino Sarfatti for Arteluce embodies the elegance and technical ingenuity of one of Italy's most iconic lighting designers. Created in the 1950s, each wall lamp features a gently curved white plexiglass diffuser, designed to create delicate, ambient light with soft shadow play, characteristic of Sarfatti's approach to functional poetry in design. The minimalist brass frame includes an elegant adjustable mechanism, allowing the user to raise or lower the diffuser to control light direction and intensity-a practical yet refined detail that elevates the piece's versatility and visual balance. These sconces are ideal for a wide variety of interiors-from hallways and dining rooms to sophisticated bedrooms-where their clean lines and luminous presence enrich any modern or classic décor. Published in: Domus 291, February 1954, p. 34 M. Romanelli, S. Severi, Gino Sarfatti. Selected Works 1938-1973, p. 404, Silvana Editoriale, 2012 Gino Sarfatti is considered a pivotal figure in 20th-century Italian lighting design. Born in Venice and trained in Genoa, he moved to Milan in 1935, collaborating first with Lumen and later founding Arteluce, a revolutionary lighting firm. Despite the obstacles of the war and racial laws, his postwar innovations led to international success. In 1949, he opened a production facility in Milan, marking the beginning of Arteluce's legacy in modern lighting.
