About the Item
This tall Art nouveau Danish ceramic table lamp is hand decorated, made by L. Hjorth ceramic factory on Danish island Bornholm that is famous for it's outstanding ceramic workshops. Hand decorated with typical art nouveau / arts & crafts organic pattern, elegant and classic. Earthy tones of brown, black, red, green, yellow and burgundy. Signed 'L. HJORTH BORNHOLM' on the bottom.
This table lamp is 42 cm (16.54 in) high including the socket, the ceramic piece alone is 33,5 cm (13.19 in) high. The mounting for the shade is adjustable. Made in the 1930s and in very good condition. Sold without the shade.
Hjorth's ceramic workshop has been located at the address Krystalgade 5 in Rønne on Bornholm, a small Danish island, since 1862. In the 1880s, Hjorth won international recognition. The Hjorth family ran the place until 1993, after which Bornholm's Museum took over the factory.
The turntable is the heart of the factory, and the entire factory's production comes through here. The turntable is completely original as it was in the 1860s, when Lauritz Hjorth founded the factory.

In the 1850s at the island of Bornholm in Denmark the small terracotta factory "L. Hjort" specialized in producing terracotta earthenware items. The factory had great success internationally, and already by 1880 Hjorth's articles were sold in the big department stores of Paris, London and Berlin, and as far away as in Australia, New York and Sct. Thomas. The factory also participated in the big World Exhibitions in Altona 1869, London 1870 and 1874 as well as New Orleans 1885.
