Gilded rococo style putti lamp on pink onyx plinth,
Crafted in Italy’s post-war design renaissance, in the 1950s, this gilded table lamp marries the playful charm of putti—cherubic figures drawn from the artistic wells of Renaissance and Rococo—with the grandeur of Italian mid-century aesthetics. The centrepiece, a sculpted pair of putti, is a study in classical beauty, rendered in scagliola and resin and lovingly gilded in Dutch gold. The artistry of the piece is further accentuated by a patina that whispers tales of a bygone era.
Supporting this sculptural dance is a robust pink onyx base, carved and polished to a soft lustre, subtly juxtaposing the vivid gold. Notwithstanding its historical motifs, the lamp has been sympathetically restored, including a careful re-gilding and repair to one cherub, ensuring that its story continues to unfold.
A testament to both past and present craftsmanship, it offers a radiant accent to any discerning interior.
