Antique Italian Ceramic Lamp Base in Rococo Revival Style, Late 19th – Early 20th Century
A rare and striking ceramic lamp base featuring a twisted column form richly decorated with raised grapevine and leaf motifs. Crafted in white-glazed ceramic, this sculptural piece showcases an elegant, organic design typical of the Rococo Revival style. Based on its decorative characteristics and craftsmanship, the piece is likely of Italian origin, dating from the late 19th to early 20th century.
The lamp rests on an octagonal gilt wooden base, naturally worn with age to reveal red bole underneath—enhancing its antique character. The brass harp and socket are later additions, likely from the mid-20th century. The wiring is also vintage and may need updating for safe use.
Condition note: A visible historic restoration is present at the top of the ceramic column (see detail photo), where a break or flaw has been repaired. The restoration is not professionally executed but is stable and adds to the piece’s character and provenance.
