Table lamp Bilia (mod. 2474) design Giò PONTI for FONTANA ARTE. ORIGIN Italy PERIOD Anni 60 DESIGNER Gio PONTI (1891-1979) was an influential Italian architect and designer, among the best known on the Italian and world stage. He graduated in architecture from the Milan Polytechnic in 1921 and began his career by collaborating with various architects and engineers, actively participating in exhibitions and founding the magazine 'Domus'. He received numerous awards for his work in design and architecture, including the Mussolini Prize in 1934. Ponti left a significant imprint on industrial design and architecture, creating such iconic works as the Pirelli Skyscraper in Milan. His legacy includes a vast archive of drawings and plans, which are kept at the Communication Studies and Archives Center in Parma. MARK FontanaArte, an Italian company founded in Milan in 1932 by Luigi Fontana and Giò Ponti, specializes in glass processing and the creation of furnishing accessories, becoming a landmark in Italian design. Known for curved crystal work and lighting production, it has gone through several artistic phases under the direction of such illustrious names as Ponti, Pietro Chiesa, Max Ingrand, and Gae Aulenti. After several corporate transitions, it was acquired by the holding company ItalianCreationGroup in 2016, continuing to represent excellence in lighting and furniture with iconic and innovative pieces while maintaining a strong commitment to the environment.
