Counter Balance Architect Desk Lamp, 1980s
About the Item
Black metal Architect desk lamp with counterweight and red details, reminiscent of the Memphis Group style.
The desk lamp can be placed in countless different positions. The heavy base has a diameter of 18 centimeter, the first arm(mounted on the base) is 24 cm long, the second arm is 43 cm long and the third is 41 cm long, the diameter of the hood is 9,5 cm and equipped with a a small halogen lamp, can be replaced with a led lamp. The base has a switch to determine the strength of lighting, weak or strong. The hood can also be positioned in different ways.

This desk lamp is made in the famous Memphis style. The Italian Memphis Group was a design and architecture group founded by Ettore Sottsass (1917-2007) in 1981 in Milan which designed Postmodern furniture, lights, fabrics, ceramics, glass, acrylic and metal objects from 1981 to 1987.
The name was taken after the Bob Dylan song “Stuck Inside of Mobile with the Memphis Blues Again“. The song was played constantly during the first meeting of the designers on the 11th December 1980.
