About the Item

Meticulously handcrafted by Amitābha Studio in Amsterdam from rare vintage Delft Green (Delfts Groen) vases by Velsen Keramiek Sassenheim, Verde & Pesca is a unique pair of table lamps. These vases, created by Velsen’s master painters around 1950-1970, are a testament to the exquisite Dutch ceramic tradition. We've paired the vase bases with custom, contemporary, hand-pleated lampshades made from luxurious Thai silk in peach—the Pantone color of the year. The lamps were created without harming the original vases in any way. Velsen Keramiek Sassenheim, originally known as 'Pottery Kennemerland,' was established in the late 1920s by Eelke Snel and Koen Mertens. Eelke, a craftsman deeply rooted in Dutch ceramics, contributed significantly to the craft through his work at the Amphora factory and later at St. Lukas. Under his leadership, Velsen evolved to produce more artistic and refined ceramics, gaining renown for quality and innovation. During World War II, the factory relocated to Sassenheim and was renamed 'Velsen,' continuing its tradition of excellence with new designs and techniques. Delft Green, or Delfts Groen, represents a rare and captivating variation within Delftware, traditionally known for its blue and white ceramics. Originating from early 17th-century attempts to imitate Chinese porcelain, Dutch potters expanded their color palette to include the uncommon green. This innovation showcased Dutch ceramics' adaptability and artistic growth, reflecting a mastery of color that was both a technical and aesthetic achievement. These table lamps beautifully combine historical craftsmanship with contemporary elegance, making them a striking addition to any sophisticated interior.
