Desvres Delft Table Lamp by Géo Martel (1900-1920) with New Green Velvet Shade

About the Item

Meticulously handcrafted by Amitābha Studio in Amsterdam from a rare Desvres ceramic vase attributed to Géo Martel (circa 1900–1920), this Delft table lamp is a striking blend of historical elegance and contemporary design. The faience base, marked with the pseudo-Delft “LF” monogram, pays homage to the 17th-century De Metaale Pot factory, reflecting the refined style of the Delft revival tradition that flourished in northern France at the turn of the century. We’ve paired the vase with a bespoke herb green velvet lampshade, handmade in a Dutch atelier and finished with a matching cord. The lamp was created without harming the original vase in any way. This antique faience lamp features a richly colored polychrome palette—burnt orange, cobalt blue, olive green, and golden ochre—hand-painted over a creamy glaze. Stylized birds, floral garlands, and scrolling foliage are rendered with remarkable precision, hallmarks of Martel’s atelier. Unlike the more commercial output of other Desvres potteries, Martel’s ceramics are known for their thoughtful restraint and fidelity to Dutch Delftware traditions. The new lampshade adds a soft matte texture that contrasts subtly with the glazed ceramic base. Its herbaceous green tone deepens the lamp’s color palette and casts a warm, inviting glow. Perfect for a writing desk, antique sideboard, or bedside table, this Delft table lamp brings a sense of craftsmanship and history to everyday spaces without overwhelming them. As a hand-painted ceramic lamp rooted in both French and Dutch design history, this piece offers more than just illumination—it’s a refined expression of European decorative art. Ideal for collectors, designers, or anyone seeking an uncommon and thoughtful lighting piece, this lamp stands as a testament to the enduring appeal of historical ceramics reimagined for contemporary interiors. ⸻ Please note: The lamp is fully wired for use in the U.S. Additionally, the listed height includes the lampshade. We also ensure compatibility for global use by offering a free plug customization service to match the electrical standards of your specific country. For U.S. customers: Any new tariff-related surcharges are already included in our shipment costs. We take care of these fees in advance so there are no unexpected charges upon delivery. If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to get in touch with us! ⸻ About Géo Martel, Desvres: Desvres, a town in the Pas-de-Calais region of northern France, became a center for faience in the 19th and early 20th centuries. Among its most esteemed artisans was Georges Martel—known as Géo Martel—who operated from around 1900 to 1940. His ceramics stand out for their fidelity to 17th-century Dutch Delftware, often incorporating carefully crafted imitation marks to align his work with that legacy. Unlike more eclectic or mass-market Desvres potteries, Martel’s pieces are valued for their technical excellence and historical sensitivity. Today, his work is increasingly sought after for its authenticity, decorative strength, and quiet refinement. About Amitābha Studio: Amitābha Studio is an Amsterdam-based design atelier dedicated to transforming historic European ceramics into one-of-a-kind lighting objects. Each lamp is crafted with deep reverence for the original form, using non-invasive methods that preserve the integrity of every antique or vintage vase. We pair these bases with bespoke lampshades—often made from luxurious textiles such as vintage sari silks or fine European fabrics—and finish each piece with carefully selected cords, fittings, and handmade brass elements. Our work is guided by a commitment to sustainability, cultural heritage, and timeless design.

Asian Figural Bronze Table Lamp of a Lying Buddha with Green Shade Myanmar 1920s
Located in Salzburg, AT
This early 20th-century Mandalay-style reclining monk, made of patinated bronze, has been transformed into a figurative table lamp. The disciple has a peaceful face and a resting, elegant posture. His face is handsome, with a slight smile and a straight nose. His robe lies in lush, wave-like folds on the surface of his body, reflecting the soft contours of the body beneath. The robe is richly decorated and suggests embroidery in silver, gold, and pearls. To match the object, the lamp structure was crafted in bronze and fitted with two sockets. The rectangular, dark green shade completes the lamp. Dimensons of sculpture on base: W 43 x D 12 x H 18cm The Mandalay-style Buddhist monk statue...
