About the Item

Lovingly handcrafted by Amitābha Studio in Amsterdam from a rare 1921 Dutch ceramic vase by Plateelbakkerij Zuid-Holland (PZH), this one-of-a-kind table lamp is a striking example of Art Nouveau–Art Deco crossover design. Hand-painted in a rich, organic palette of dark verdigris green, mustard ochre, and deep teal, the base features stylized floral medallions and geometric banding — hallmarks of both the late Jugendstil aesthetic and early 1920s decorative modernism. The matte-glazed finish and sculptural form further reflect the pioneering spirit of Gouda pottery during this artistic golden age. We've paired this historic vase base with a contemporary lampshade in luxurious Murano Gold velvet featuring an inner platinum lining, custom-made in an atelier near Amsterdam. The lamp was created without harming the original vase in any way. Plateelbakkerij Zuid-Holland, also known as Plazuid or PZH, was a pioneering force in Gouda pottery during the early 20th century. Founded in 1898, PZH gained acclaim for introducing the matte-glaze technique in 1909, marking a significant departure from the high-gloss finishes prevalent in Art Nouveau and Jugendstil styles. This innovative approach not only softened the aura of their pieces but also set new trends in ceramic artistry, propelling PZH to its zenith in the 1920s. ⸻ Please note: The lamp is fully wired for use in the U.S. Additionally, the listed height includes the lampshade. We also ensure compatibility for global use by offering a free plug customization service to match the electrical standards of your specific country. If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to get in touch with us! ⸻ About Amitābha Studio: Amitābha Studio is a design atelier dedicated to transforming historic European ceramics into one-of-a-kind lighting objects. Each lamp is crafted with deep reverence for the original form, using non-invasive methods that preserve the integrity of every antique or vintage vase. We pair these bases with bespoke lampshades—often made from luxurious textiles such as vintage sari silks or fine European fabrics—and finish each piece with carefully selected cords, fittings, and handmade brass elements. Our work is guided by a commitment to sustainability, cultural heritage, and timeless design.
