Gallè Tip - Large Art Nouveau Mushroom Lamp in multilayer glass

About the Item

Superb Large Mushroom Lamp in multilayer glass decorated with flowers, tones of red and orange on an ocher background. Height: 60cm. Lamp signed “Gallé”, accompanied by a “Tip” distinction which means “of Type Gallé”. These lamps use original traditional ancestral craft techniques. During the Art Nouveau era, these lamps served as iconic icons of the artistic style of the time, reflecting the exquisite craftsmanship found in the designs of Émile Gallé. These lamps are crafted using a technique called multi-layered glass or hot work. This process consists of successively superimposing layers of glass of different colours, thus creating a bewitching effect. To create these lamps, the artist begins by drawing the desired decorative pattern. This pattern is then carefully applied to the glass piece to replicate the intricate ornamentation. In order to protect certain areas from the corrosive effects of the acid, the craftsman applies a varnish. This protective layer then allows the piece to be further treated in different ways, whether by brushing or by immersion in a bath, in order to obtain the desired aesthetic result.
