About the Item
It starts off with 3kg of clay for both the top and bottom of the lamp. White stoneware for the bottom, and porcelain for the top. Thrown on the potters wheel the bottom is left to dry overnight and trimmed, smoothed and fitted together the next day. It's during this process that the fit is adjusted and the correct diameter holes are drilled for the light socket and integrated switch. The top of the ceramic fabric lamp is made with a slab of clay, dried slightly and carefully placed to form the fabric look. As they slowly dry in the studio they are shuffled around so they can dry evenly. After a couple of weeks they are loaded into the kiln and fired to 2160 degrees fahrenheit. The lamps are then removed and bottoms sanded smoothed.
Each piece is handmade and thus there may be small differences piece to piece.

Bruce Ceramics
Daniel grew up in the Pacific Northwest in the town of Woodinville Washington. It was there he learned to work with his hands at his fathers business. He discovered ceramics in college and the rest is history. He currently works out of his Southern California home studio where he makes each lamp on the potters wheel. This current collection focuses on lamps made from earthenware. The design is heavily influenced by the modern and mid-century movements of the early 20th century.
