About the Item

A monumental 1960s mid century table lamp by well know Italian ceramic company Ugo Zaccagnini. The lamp is made in section in white glazed and natural unglazed terracotta earthenware. The top candle holder style piece and the faux candle housing the socket are carved wood. The faux candle has been repainted. The lamp base is only marked with M15 on bottom, However, the same lamp and smaller versions with the same glazed ceramic stacked ball bases have been signed and documented. The lamp diameter is 12 inches. From top of socket to base is 41.5 inches. Including the harp, the total height is 53 inches. Shown with a new 19" x 20" x 13" white linen lamp shade that is not included. Harp is older with signs of wear otherwise, lamp is in very very fine condition. Ugo (1868-1937) was an Italian sculptor and ceramist. He founded his company in 1905 in Florence. After Ugo Zaccagnini's death in 1937, his son Urbano took over the company, which was renamed "Società Anonima Ceramiche Zaccagnini." In 1950 a number of ZACCAGNINI ceramics were exhibited in the Italian Crafts Exhibition at the Brooklyn Museum. In the US, much of the work from this period was likened to the “Hollywood Regency” style, then en vogue, as it combined classical and modernist traits together with more opulent decorative flourishes. By now ZACCAGNINI was exporting all over the world and fast becoming collectible. Pietro, Zaccagnini’s older brother, died in 1954. In 1958, after twenty years of successful leadership, Zaccagnini left the company to open his own ceramics studio, Urbano Zaccagnini Ceramiche Artistiche. He passed away in 1964, as did his younger brother Prisco the following year. This left the company to the sisters Adele and Enrichetta, as well as Ugo Zaccagnini’s grandchildren. ZACCAGNINI closed its doors in 2000, but many family members have since opened their own studios in and around Florence.

Table Lamp by Ugo Zaccagnini
By Ugo Zaccagnini
Located in Kilmarnock, VA
A beautifully proportioned and sculptural table lamp by Ugo Zaccagnini, featuring a soft robin’s egg blue crackled glaze with subtle tonal variation and surface depth. The gentle craquelure enhances the organic curves of the ceramic body, lending the lamp a tactile quality and a sense of quiet movement. The original rosewood cap and base provide a rich material contrast—dark, refined, and architectural against the delicate surface of the glaze. This interplay of texture and tone reflects the studio’s deep sensitivity to form and finish. Zaccagnini, one of Italy’s most respected 20th-century ceramicists, worked at the intersection of tradition and modernity. Known for his sculptural forms and refined glazes, his work was widely exhibited and retailed through top galleries and luxury decorators in postwar Europe and the United States. This lamp’s silhouette is bold yet fluid—equally at home in a richly layered interior or a clean-lined, organic modernist space. The cool, pale blue makes it a versatile design element: it can act as a subtle pop of color in a neutral room, or as a cool, calming contrast against deeper hues and dark woods. Designers such as Gio Ponti, Billy Baldwin, or Kalef Alaton...
