Lamp Table Candlestick Pewter 17th Century Baroque

About the Item

Exceptionally rare, 17th century, pewter candlestick upcycled into a table lamp, 20” high Elegant, classical form typical of the Baroque period, with all the surfaces reflecting light Surviving pewter pieces from this period are rare as it is a soft metal and easily damaged. Pewter was very popular in the 17th century used as a cheaper alternative to silver and much prized for for its reflective qualities. Not ornamenting the surfaces creates a pared down aesthetic which enhances the form and finish creating a contemporary feel as well as increasing the candlestick’s reflective qualities. This torchere can easily be polished to the high sheen and colour of silver with silver products. Sturdy, usable condition. Provenance : Private collection. The conversion is recent so it conforms to UK electrical standards. Measures: Height to top of candlestick : 51 cm., 20 inches Height to top of light fitting, 66 cm., 26 inches Length from foot-to-foot 23 cm., 9 inches.
