Michael Andersen Set of Graphic Ceramic Lamps and Vase, 1950s

About the Item

Danish Mid-Century Modern ceramic pieces by ceramic artist Marianne Starck for Michael Andersen & Son. Two table lamps and one vase from the same series. Rectangular and geometric shapes with glaze in grayish cream and chestnut brown. Switch on fittings. Marked and signed by hand on base. Model 6209 and 6176. Price is for the set of three items. All items are in beautiful condition. Price is for the set. Marianne Starck (1937-2001) worked as the artistic director at Michael Andersen & Sons on the Danish island of Bornholm from 1955 to the company's closure in 1993. During these decades her output of designs was vast and not very well cataloged. One of her most striking and popular series was for the Tribal series - also known as the Negro series. The motifs vary from abstract forms and geometric patterns to stylized animals and humans. Her work clearly reflects that she studied as a graphic designer in Hamburg, Germany, before she took her artistry to the ceramic scene in Mid-Century Denmark.
