MAGNIFICENT! 3 -SHADE ARTICULATING TRIENNALE STYLE TABLE LAMP IN THE MANNER OF LIGHTOLIER DESIGNS BY GERALD THURSTON & GINO SARFATTI GREAT STYLE! EPIC FUNCTIONALITY! CIRCA:1955 DIMENSIONS: APPROXIMATELY 20" x 20" x 27" In the mid century period designers were fascinated with controlling light and putting it in specific places. Most of the designs from this era all employ various techniques to control and place light precisely. Goosenecks, arms and directional cone shades were ubiquitous and made decorators very happy! Now lighting was more dramatic than ever before and the Colonial era of American interior design was overturned within a decade!! This lamp is reminiscent of designs made by Gino Sarfatti and Gerald Thurston for Lightolier around 1951. 3 colorful articulating shades place light wherever you want it! This lamp has wonderfully durable steel shades. While aluminum was the new and lightweight wonder metal, cones made of aluminum deteriorated quickly with bends and dents compared to the tank-like quality of the steel shades used in the postwar 1946-1953 era. This lamp's colors change so dramatically in the light! The coral hue becomes almost cherry colored in darkness and the grey/tan shade becomes a dark steel color! The blue is a marvelous robin eggs blue and then becomes a deep ocean blue. This lamp is in very fine vintage condition and will easily last another 70 years - and look spectacular every minute of the way! A wonderful mid-century decorator lamp for the discerning client. An iconic lighting addition to your NY penthouse, Palm Springs atomic ranch, West Palm Beach estate or mid century restoration!
