About the Item

Mid-Century Greek Bastet Cat God Table Lamp Iron Patinated The heavy object in cast in iron, is slightly overdrawn in its contours. The animal sits in an upright posture, the tail is placed forward the ears stand. The surface of the figure is matte, almost a little grainy to the touch - the color is brown-olive green-turquoise. The bronze lamp construction made especially for this object allows the object to stand firmly in the socket, a small rim determines the contour on the base. There are 2 sockets that make it possible to illuminate the object optimally. The round conical shade is hand painted in a dark beige color. The visible wide brush stroke fits very well with the surface of the object. The shade is edged with a narrow band in dark gold, also the inside of the shade is gold - which creates a warm color. Very decorative lamp object from the 1940-ies Greece. The lamp construction and the shade were made new. Dimensions figure: Length: 16cm x Width 10cm + Height 24cm The goddess Bastet - lioness and cat. The main cult place of the cat goddess Bastet was the city of Bubastis in the southeastern Nile Delta. Here, however, she was by no means worshipped at all times in the form of a cat, but rather initially as a powerful lioness. Later her representation took place as a sitting cat. Among the Egyptians, she was worshipped as the goddess of fertility, often depicted as a cat or woman with a cat or lion head. As the goddess of fertility and love, Bastet also acts as the protector of pregnant women. She is also the goddess of joy, dance, music and festivals. Originally, she possessed both angry and gentle qualities. Over time, the angry nature was given to the goddess Sakhmet, who becomes the shadow, the destructive side of Bastet.
